Fitness and Exercising: 3 Training Secrets to Get Your Abs in Shape for the Beach
Flat, toned abs.
Everybody wants them. And if you want to feel confident as you stroll down the beach in your brand new swimsuit, you probably want them too.
Have you just started trying to achieve those toned, well-defined abs? Or have you been trying to develop a six-pack for a while now with little success?
Well, here are three tips that will help you get your abs into shape for swimsuit season.
1. Burn more calories than you consume.
Doing crunches for hours on end will strengthen your abs. But no one will see the results if there’s a layer of fat covering your abdominal muscles.
To burn enough fat to show off those well-toned abs, you need to burn more calories than you consume. This means cutting down on your daily calorie intake, and getting more exercise.
But don’t just exercise your abs. A more well-rounded, full-body workout will help you burn more calories, and get your abs into shape faster.
You might also need to make some changes to your diet. For example, unhealthy carbohydrates like sugar and starch will make you gain and retain more fat. And while you don’t have to give up cookies or pasta entirely, it won’t hurt to cut back a little.
2. Give your metabolism a boost.
Your metabolism helps determine how fast your body burns fat. So the faster your metabolism, the better.
One way to increase your metabolism is by drinking more water. If you’re dehydrated, your metabolism will be slower than if you are fully hydrated. So, throughout the day, look for opportunities to drink more water.
And do you eat breakfast every morning? If not, you should know that skipping breakfast will result in a slower metabolism. So, no matter how busy your morning is, get into the habit of eating something before your day officially starts.
Another thing that can speed up your metabolism is eating four to six small meals a day, instead of three large meals a day. Your body needs fuel to burn fat. And eating several small meals throughout the day will give it that fuel.
3. Mix up your workout routine.
Maybe you’ve heard about two or three awesome ab exercises that produce great results. So you figure the best way to flatten and tone your stomach is by focusing on those two or three exercises.
But focusing on a handful of exercises won’t do your abs nearly as much good as variety will. So along with the ab crunches and hanging leg raises, mix in some side bends and oblique twists. Doing a wide variety of ab exercises will ensure your abdominal muscles are getting the workout they need to be flat, toned and tight.
Also, you might think working out every day is the quickest way to get results. But it’s actually better to work out three to four times a week (with a rest day between each workout) than to try to work out daily. Giving yourself that break will actually help you get your abs into shape faster.
